If possible I would give this book a 4.5 - only because of my preference for time travel books to take place previous centuries verses current times. However, I understand that this was necessary since this is the 3rd in the series, Cullen's story and as Cullen (not being a time traveler) is trapped in present day and thus cannot travel back to his birth century in the 1400's. I LOVED the first two books in the series - and they set the stage wonderfully for this 3rd book. If you like time travel romance novels DO NOT miss this series. Although lacking the historical depth of the Outlander series these books still pack the romantic mystical punch. In my reviews I won't waste your time with recapping the story - I believe the author gives you the necessary taste of the novel. Instead I will tell you that right now there is no better bargain (at 99 cents) for a delightful escapism from staid reality than jumping on these initial 3 books in an 8 book series! Story was good, although I wonder if any of the Ranay James's characters in her upcoming books will ever have a real courtship/wedding and not have the man secretly marry them without their knowledge. It didn't really make sense to me as to why Grace would run after the killings instead of going to the police, but then we wouldn't have a story now would we? ;) I was entertained, glad the Cullen got is HEA after Morgan. Looking forward to reading about Gage.
After reading Book 3 of the McKinnon Legends again I could not put it down until finished. Cullen from Book 1 and 2 is now in today's time by time travel and has had to adjust to the current time finding it difficult that he will never be able to return to his home of his family in the 1500's. But still finding true love in his new time but trying to act as he was raised and taught as a young man and finding that it doesn't work on todays women.
I will be starting book 4 shortly. Keep writing in the same story telling fashion that these other book have been written and I will keep reading.
This is the 3rd book of the 4 in the McKinnon series. This is ,so far, the best one to my taste. But you have to read book 1 and book 2 to learn who the players are and to keep them straight in your mind. They are important to the series. When you are into the first quarter of this book it takes off and you won't be able to put it down. This book is very interesting and it keeps getting better. This is Cullens and Graces book . Book one is Nic and Morgans book, Book 2 is Connor and Reagans Book Book 4 is Gage and Sara;s book.

If you managed to grow to care about these characters as I have, despite the bad grammar and redundancy of the stories themselves, you'll want to continue on. The author closes some loops and creates new avenues for the overall story line to continue on. I like the heroine, Grace, alot but apparently travelling through time with a wound as Cullen did turns you into a Class A jerk. I did not like his character at all. Even at the end when he was beginning to be more approachable I just wanted to smack him and tell him to get over himself. Uggh. I have read the next book in the series "Of Purest Blood" which is a much better book, however you need to read this one to understand some of the nuances in Of Purest Blood. Good luck!
Interesting as the other two ones . Shades of Grace is the continuation of the story of the McKinnon family who had being traveling from centuries in time. Some of them had the gift of time traveling but others don't.
I enjoyed reading this book as much as the other two but the only thing I have to criticize is the length . It's too long and extending the story too much is tiring. anyway I have being saying the same since I read the first one but I still keep reading so It's not so bad. I really enjoyed the three books. The story is interesting and keeps you wishing to know more. Good book
Saved by the time portal and future medicine, Cullen lands himself in the 20th century.
Loving his brother's wife, mortally wounded - the only way out was in the future and lost to them all.
Cullen is of McKinnon stock, good looking, strong character, honourable, well mannered (for a law man), and ladies love him... but he is reserved and keeps himself for only his one "torch" that lights up his heart, until Grace comes into his life. She gives as good as she gets, the plot has twists and turns and numerous surprises.
This has that deja vu feeling with meaning!
Read it, you wont be disappointed you did - but I recommend you read the series in order.
I enjoyed the first two books very much, but the third one seemed like it was written by someone else. Almost adolescent writing, and very poor editing and proofreading like they rushed this one out. This book made Cullen out to be kind of a selfish, shallow jerk with a quick temper and sharp tongue. Not exactly the chivalrous Knight he was depicted as in the previous books, and certainly not engaging as a love interest unless all you need is height and cowboy boots. Since the first two books really gave Nic, Morgan, Connor and Reagan engaging personalities and depth I found this book very disappointing.
